About

Behind the Letter

Backpacking Beckett began with a simple wish — that children would get letters and love reading again.

The Boy Abroad

Beckett is a 1st grader

The story of Backpacking Beckett began with his birth announcement taken at the foot of Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. Beckett's father was working for an airline at the time, and his mother was a business professor. That combination, along with a curious urge to explore the world, turned almost every weekend, winter break, and open summer into another travel adventure. Baby Beckett went with them, and by the time the world paused just before his first birthday, he had already been to nine countries and territories.

Knowing he was too young to remember any of it, his mother began keeping a journal, so that one day he could “remember” the trains, the markets, the mornings he had been carried through.

Beckett's travel stories and photographs are the foundation of the letters that arrive in your mailbox today. Beckett is older now, writing his own stories, choosing his own routes, and sharing them with other curious explorers.

The Beckett Compass

The quiet conviction & resolute direction behind every envelope.

Wonder over noise.

Childhood is short; make it an adventurous one.

Story over worksheet.

The best lessons are the ones that don't feel like lessons. Geography learned through story stays longer than geography memorized for a test.

Heirloom over disposable.

Our letters are designed to be saved and collected. We print on high-quality paper and design each map for that reason.

Books over screens.

We always encourage picking up a book, or a written letter, before grabbing the device.

The world is good.

We write to children with hope, not fear. The tone throughout all our content is wholesome and adventurous designed to spark wonder and conversations among families.

Hello — We're Glad You're Here

The small family operation behind it.

Backpacking Beckett is written, designed, and mailed from a home library filled with travel atlases and family pictures. Next to a deep green velvet couch and a worn leather chair, you will find wooden toys, popup books and ornaments from around the world. Each journey is researched, curated, taken and then written about from this little green library.

If you ever want to reach us, write to hello@backpackingbeckett.com. We'd love to hear from you.
